About the competition

Hands Up for Trad has launched a 2016 Gaelic and Scots songwriting competition, Nòs Ùr (New Style), in partnership with Creative Scotland.

Gaelic and Scots songwriters, singers and groups are invited to submit a new and original song in either language which will then be considered by an industry panel.

The winning song will be professionally arranged and recorded before being made available on iTunes, Apple Music, Spotify and Google Play. Additionally, the winning song will form part of the Scotland Sings – Renewing The Tradition Songbook after having undergone extensive workshop and performance opportunites at Scotland Sings – Renewing The Tradition in October 2016.

The closing date for entries is 1 May 2016 (11.55pm) and all entries will be made available on Hands Up for Trad's website, Musichub.
