About the choir
The National Teachers Choir (NTC) is an unauditioned choir that builds singing confidence and achieves singing excellence. It brings together teachers from across the country to develop them as a national choir with a focus on performance.
We know that lots of teachers like to sing, for their own pleasure and musical development, to enhance their teaching, and for the experience of working with their peers. However, there has been nothing to date to showcase teachers singing together at national level.
The National Teachers Choir (NTC) is an unauditioned choir that builds singing confidence and achieves singing excellence.
It brings together teachers from across the country and across key stages, to develop them as a national choir with a focus on performance, whilst also celebrating the power of the voice by building a national network of ambassadors for singing in schools, linking into local networks.
To be eligible to join NTC you need to be involved in regular teaching in a UK school, e.g. classroom teacher, TA, senior leader, trainee teacher, peripatetic music teacher.
This can be at any key stage from EYFS to KS5, in any type of educational setting.
How to join
The fee for the weekend is £50.
Members of NTC will:
- explore vocal techniques, repertoire and leadership
- enhance musicality and choral excellence
- perform to a high standard in national public arenas
- learn and disseminate good practice around vocal health for teachers
- share ideas for developing singing in schools and across music education hubs
- enjoy the wider benefits of singing together
- offer members weekend programmes of rehearsals and workshops, featuring leading guest conductors
- secure, and work towards, national performance opportunities
A range of styles and genres, including popular and light classics, uplifting gospel and other random and funky stuff. We're going to challenge and inspire you, but don't worry about being able to read music - there are other ways!
The first NTC rehearsal weekend takes place in February 2015. Future events and performances will be announced.
