MU urges BBC to reconsider axing programme

The Musicians' Union (MU) has sent an open letter to BBC Scotland about the axing of Mary Ann Kennedy’s Global Gathering on BBC Radio Scotland.

Over 160 musicians, agents, managers and politicians including King Creosote, Karine Polwart and Patricia Ferguson MSP, Cabinet Secretary for Culture and External Affairs, have called on the BBC to reverse its decision to cancel one of the cornerstones of the station’s music output.

The MU explained that the loss of Mary Ann Kennedy’s Global Gathering means that BBC Radio Scotland will have 'no music programme which adequately reflects the cultural diversity of contemporary Scotland, no female presenters presenting any of their specialist music strands and no specialist traditional music producers in their Glasgow headquarters'.

The decision to axe the show was announced in February and the classical music-orientated show, Classics Unwrapped, took it's place.
